Interesting climbers
- #extremekathleenwilliams (5th place House): Political scion and highly creative political analyst Donald Trump Jr. is calling for reelection of GOP MT-AL incumbent Greg Gianforte, comparing Democratic challenger Kathleen Williams to noted extremists Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.
- #communityfirst (15th place House): A California 04 hashtag today, praising supporters of Democrat Jessica Morse for creating a community-based movement.
- #northdakota (8th place Senate): Interestingly, this has nothing to do with #NDSen Democratic incumbent Heidi Heitkamp’s recent Kavanaugh vote. Apparently the state’s GOP has passed a voter-registration law that effectively disenfranchises certain Native American communities that do not have the correct form of USPS-issued postal address. This after Heitkamp won her seat with strong Native-community support. The Supreme Court has refused to hear an emergency appeal. Activists are helping to disseminate ways to help these citizens vote.
GENERAL TRENDS
On the House side, #redtoblue is used across the country, but predominately in Kansas 03, where any pretense at GOP civility seems to have dropped. Here Republican precinct chairman Michael Kalny left a Facebook message for the local Democratic Women’s chapter president reading:
Little Ms. Pritchett — you and your comrades stealth attack on Yoder is going to blow up in your leftist face… The REAL REPUBLICANS will remember what the scum DEMOCRATS tried to do to Kavanaugh in November. Your radical socialist kick boxing lesbian Indian will be sent back packing to the reservation.
According to the Kansas City Star, “Roughly 50 exclamation points followed the end of the message.” Kalny has since resigned from his party position.
Recent polls have shown Democrat Sharice Davids (the target of the suspiciously manic message) to be well ahead of GOP incumbent Kevin Yoder.
The #2ndamendment tag is also due to Donald Trump Jr.’s tweeted support of Montana candidate Gianforte, the same tweet hitting a number of high points in a very cost-effective manner.v
On the Senate side, we’ve seen these Texas and Michigan hashtags before, almost every day. More interesting is the North Dakota campaign to restore voting rights to disenfranchised Native American communities (see above).
