INTERESTING CLIMBERS
- #teammorse (16th place House): A strong showing for Democrat Jessica Morse in California 04, running against incumbent Tom McClintock. A key issue here: Morse is a strong backer of Christine Blasey Ford, whose allegations McClintock called “crazy talk.”
- #leadright (18th place House): A general GOP get-out-and-vote tag, here used most prominently in Missouri Senate, New Hampshire 01 (see below), and Virginia 05 and 10.
- #KAG2018: (7th place Senate) KAG, for the uninitiated, stands for “Keep America Great,” as introduced by Trump in March. Based on the general volumes we’ve seen at Pollchatter, it hasn’t been catching on.
GENERAL TRENDS
On the House site, #nhpolitics is a rare House-side showing from the GOP side, primarily focused on calling #NH01 Democrat Chris Pappas a “far-left extremist,” compared to the “outstanding patriot” Republican Eddie Edwards. The seat – still deemed “likely Democrat” by Cook’s Political Report – is an interesting one, as the outcome will produce either the state’s first openly gay (Pappas) or first black (Edwards) congressman.
#Climatechange (certainly something we’d like to see on these lists more often) is on the charts primarily thanks to California 48 Democrat candidate Harley Rouda, who notes that GOP incumbent Dana Rohrabacher doesn’t believe in it. Rohrabacher is (entirely coincidentally) one of the top 10 recipients of fossil-fuel cash, according to the Sierra Club’s “fossil fools” list.
As is typical, #bluewave is being widely used across the country, but today is particularly strong from Virginia 10 and Democratic candidate Jennifer Wexton.
On the Senate side, Cruz’s supporters are still doing the manic, suspiciously active Cruz-supporting thing, at a high simmer rather than a boil today. The #maga boom comes from a Trump visit to West Virginia.
