Interesting climbers:
- #americafirst (4th place House): A popular general tag for the #maga crowd. Used across a number of districts, but standing out here following a very strong fundraiser by GOP candidate Danny Tarkanian in NV03.
- #wewantwallace (5th place House): Purely support for PA01 Democrat Scott Wallace. This race, with very strong criticism of GOP incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick, is shaping up to be one of the most active on Twitter.
- #kangaroocourt (18th place Senate): An almost passing reference to the Kavanaugh hearings in the context of a call for a tweetstorm on behalf of Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill.
GENERAL TRENDS
On the House side, the concerted Democratic Twitter campaign against incumbent Fitzpatrick shoots to the top of the list today, with particular reference to the the Republican’s vote for the GOP tax bill. By contrast, #gotv is spread across a large number of districts.
On the Senate side, the Cruz juggernaut is continuing to jugger, with Michigan GOP candidate John James in his usual second-place slot.
Interesting here is the relatively small share of posts referencing the Kavanaugh hearings on either side of the aisle, in either category, given that virtually everyone on political Twitter was watching the spectacle and commenting on it. This may in part be due to the UTC-time-zone cutoff we’re using for our definition of midnight. However, it may also be that people simply don’t want to associate their specific races with the toxic emotions and inevitable political fallout of that issue.
